Electrician Prevailing Wage Rates
Electrician rates vary significantly by location. In high-wage markets like Illinois, New York, and California, Davis-Bacon electrician rates often exceed $55–$65/hr total package (base + fringe). In lower-wage regions, rates may be $35–$45/hr total.
What Work Is Covered?
All electrical work performed by laborers and mechanics on covered federal contracts is subject to prevailing wage requirements. This includes rough wiring, finish work, panel installation, and low-voltage work — each classification must be paid the appropriate rate.
Apprentice Electricians
Apprentice electricians may be paid a percentage of journeyman rates, but only if enrolled in a DOL-registered or state-approved apprenticeship program. Informally trained helpers must be paid journeyman rates.
