Davis-Bacon Record-Keeping Requirements

Jun 29, 2026

Davis-Bacon imposes specific record-keeping requirements that go beyond standard payroll practices. Failure to maintain adequate records — even if wages were paid correctly — can expose contractors to compliance risk during audits.

What Records Are Required?

  • Name, address, and Social Security number of each covered worker
  • Classification and craft for all work performed
  • Daily and weekly hours worked
  • Gross and net wages paid each week
  • Fringe benefits paid or provided, by type
  • Copies of certified payrolls (Form WH-347) submitted

How Long Must Records Be Kept?

Records must be maintained for three years after project completion. Given the potential for late-filed complaints and retroactive audits, many contractors maintain Davis-Bacon records for longer.

Access During Audits

DOL investigators have the right to inspect payroll records at the job site or contractor's office during business hours. Records must be made available within a reasonable time of request.
